With Gujarat holding the key to the future of the Congress at the Centre, all eyes are now fixed on the confidence motion that Chief Minister Dilip Parikh has to face on November 13. Diesel prices cut for parity with world rates
Retail prices of high speed diesel (HSD) have come down by five paise in New Delhi, Chennai and Calcutta and by six paise in Mumbai with effect from November 7, 1997. The slide in international oil prices in September prompted the Oil Coordination Committee (OCC) to revise the prices of diesel, to ensure import parity.

World's largest chem arms arsenal on chopping block
Russia ratified the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) yesterday, obliging Moscow to destroy its huge arsenals and convert production plants to peaceful uses within decade. Russia has the world's largest arsenal of chemical weapons - 40,000 tonnes - followed by the US with some 30,000 tonnes.
