SC orders seizure of star farmlands

A two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice J S Verma and Justice SC Sen set aside and quashed the order of the Mumbai High Court staying the possession of 156 acres of land in Panvel, 52 kms from Mumbai, housing the plush farmhouses.

Bommai puts Rs 95,000-cr price tag on compulsory education

[Details] The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development's grandiose plan to make elementary education a fundamental right has hit a wall. A high-level committee, set up to go into the costs of the proposal, has come up with a mind-boggling figure of around Rs 95,000 crore, more than double the ministry's original estimate of Rs 40,000 crore to be spread over five years.

Press Council dismisses Win Chadha's grouse against Express

[Details] The Press Council of India (PCI) has dismissed a complaint by ex-Bofors agent Win Chadha against The Indian Express about a report on him that appeared in these columns last February tiltled, "Winner turns loser", by the newspaper's Geneva correspondent Chitra Subramaniam. The report profiled the controversial NRI in well-researched detail. Stung by the report, Chadha approached the Press Council of India and claimed that its contents were, among other things, "wild, baseless and defamatory".
