UF dithers on defection law

[Details] With `defection' politics apparently providing the only platform for stable governance, the dithering of parties on this crucial issue is not surprising. Despite pressure from the Congress, the United Front Government's efforts to amend the Anti-Defection Law in the coming winter session of Parliament are unlikely to succeed.

Scindia decries toppling game

[Details] The All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary for Maharashtra, Madhavrao Scindia, today warned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to put its own house in order, threatening that the Congress could topple the BJP government in Rajasthan. He said at least 10 MLAs from Rajasthan were in touch with the party leaders, but Congress would not like to encourage defection devoid of principles.

Ex-DMK minister freed in Padmanabha case

[Details] Fifteen out of the 17 accused in the EPRLF leader Padmanabha murder case, were acquitted by the Designated Court-II, at the high security Poonamalee sub-Jail, on Saturday. ``Charges levelled against the 15 accused are not proved beyond any reasonable doubt, hence, they are acquitted'', DC-II judge Arumugha Perumal Adithan observed, according to the 271 page long judgement.
