EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

VIJAYWADA, NOV 9: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Rajendra Sinhji today said the nation failed to make significant progress after independence both at Central and State levels since its politicians were only interested in protecting their selfish interests.

Rajendra Sinhji who was here to attend the conference of RSS workers belonging to Poorva Andhra, Pashima Andhra and Orissa regions was addressing the RSS workers of the city.

Lashing out at all political parties, Sinhji emphasised, ``A false propaganda had been made during the pre and post-independent eras that the government alone could bring about the desired change without involving the dedicated individuals.''

As a result, he said, colonial laws continued to dog Indian society society. There was no change even in the police laws though the National Police Commission had submitted its recommendations long back, he pointed out.

Putting the activities of the RSS in contrast to the undoing of the country's progress by politicians, he said that the Sangh was working hard to promote unity, patriotism and brotherhood among people; RSS believed that changes could be brought about in individuals only where there was unity among them, and only this would strengthen the nation.

Citing Andhra Pradesh as a case to the point of political sloth, he pointed out that though the Congress and the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) enjoyed power in Andhra Pradesh they failed to bring about significant changes in society.

RSS workers in AP, Rajendra Sinhji, workers were always on the forefront when it came to `selfless service'. He said RSS workers constructed houses at a short period to cyclone victims in Konaseema area in Andhra Pradesh last year. They also distributed rice and coconut saplings to the cyclone victims.

During the recent mishap at HPCL, Vizag, the RSS workers reached spots where even the police could not dare to go and recovered charred bodies. They even helped in performing the last rites of the victims. The RSS chief hailed the services rendered by RSS workers in the State during the last two years.

He however stressed that the RSS needed to increase the number of kshetras and extend its activities to other regions. The RSS should take up more welfare activities.

Kshetra Sangha Chalak Chilukuri Subrahmanya Sastry, Pranta Sanghachalak Sivaprasad and city Sangha Chalak T V Subba Rao were present on the dais.

Criticising the role of Indian communists in supporting the Britishers and continuance of terror against the poor and the Dalits by various naxalite outfits now, he urged the volunteers to educate the masses in the naxal-infested areas to ensure that progress was not stalled there. The RSS chief expressed concern at the growing naxal violence in the State. Wrapping up, the RSS chief said the Sangh believed in enlightening the individuals as to patriotism, self-discipline and dedication for bringing about unity to realise. ``We could see the realisation of the dream of a united and self-respecting India within two or three years,'' Sinhji asserted.
