Books, paintings missing from J&K Academy

SRINAGAR, NOV 9: Historically invaluable manuscript of Mehjoor, the legendary Kashmiri poet, are among the three hundred rare books missing from the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, here.

For the past eight years the functioning of the Academy had come to a halt.

Hundreds of rare books, manuscripts and about ten paintings by artists of international repute including Ghulam Rasool Santosh and others have gone unaccounted for.

A senior official while speaking on conditions of anonymity disclosed to this newspaper that the Academy which is an autonomous body, has been robbed by none other than its own mentors and high officials.
