IT raids Naresh Kumar

CALCUTTA, NOV 12: Income Tax officials raided the business establishments and residences of former Davis Cup non-playing captain Naresh Kumar and seized money and jewellery worth Rs 1.45 crore. Also, Rs 55.7 lakh have been recovered from his Calcutta premises.

They have also seized Rs 25 lakh from a friend and Rs 65 lakh from his brother Suresh Kumar. Besides, the department have seized unaccounted fixed deposits, bank accounts and related documents.

Speaking to The Indian Express, UP Singh , Director (investigation) said that certain ``incriminating'' documents were found and the department is conducting an investigation into them. Although the department did not disclose the evidences that led them to raid Kumar's premises, the officer conducting the raid informed Kumar that he had defaulted under VDS (Voluntary Disclosure Scheme).

Three Delhi and two Mumbai offices of Naresh Kumar's company have been sealed, along with four each in Dhanbad, Ranchi and Jamshedpur.

In all, 25 premises of Kumar and his brother Suresh Kumar in Calcutta, Delhi, Mumbai, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Bangalore and Cuttack, were raided. When contacted, Kumar refuted this charges as ``baseless'' and said he does not have a contract with TISCO, but deals with them on an adhoc basis. The department, however, claimed that the Kumar's contract with TISCO was signed during Rusi Modi's tenure.
