Quicktakes -- Showers in city today again

MUMBAI, November 12: Unseasonal rains will continue in Mumbai and some parts of the State on Thursday due to the deep depression lying over the Arabian Sea. According to the Colaba Observatory, the deep depression is centred at lattitude 14.0 degree north and longitude 64.5 degree east. It likely to intensify further and move in a north-northwesterly direction. Marathwada, Konkan, Goa and Central Maharashtra have exprienced widespread rains. Mumbai experienced heavy showers for the second day on Wednesday.

Sensex dips

MUMBAI: THE fresh crash in global stock markets has once again cast a bearish shadow over Indian stock markets. The continuing high volatility in overseas bonuses led to heavy selling by leading Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) in Indian markets too. The Sensex fell by 90.22 points, or 2.42 per cent, and closed below the 3,700 mark at 3633.18.

Rupee falls

MUMBAI: The rupee fell to a 21-month low to touch Rs 36.76 against the dollar at the inter-bank foreign exchange market here on Wednesday.

I-T raids

CALCUTTA: Income-tax raids continued on 25 office and residential premises of former Davis Cupper Naresh Kumar in eight cities and towns after Tuesday's seizure of unaccounted cash and jewellery worth Rs 1.45 crore.

HC notice

NEW DELHI: THE Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation on a bail application moved by K Periaswamy, the accused in a racket involving sale and purchase of LPG and telephone connections from the priority quota of MPs. Justice Jaspal Singh directed the CBI to file its reply by November 18.
