Bhagyashree builds on lead

[Details] International Woman Master Bhagyashree Thipsay moved one point clear of the field when she won her seventh round match in the Savvy Women's National B Chess Championships at the SNDT University Complex yesterday. Bhagyashree, the third seed, defeated Nisha Mohota to tally 6.5 points and assure herself of a berth in the Women's National A championships next year.

Italy to play for a win

[Details] Italy coach Cesare Maldini has hinted that his side would not seek a 0-0 draw in this weekend's play-off match against Russia even though that would be enough to see them safely through to the 1998 World Cup finals. Italy enter Saturday's second leg match in Naples needing either a victory or a goalless draw following their 1-1 tie in Moscow in the first leg.
