Necrophiliac piety is the affliction of the season, exemplified not by Che Guevara's daughter alone. Delhi is currently witnessing the pathetic spectacle of ancient members of a party of tired metabolism seeking life-saving energy from the dead. It is like this: Leaderless leaders of the Congress, their anxiety hastened by the fear of redundancy if not immediate extinction, are waiting outside the Temple of Boon, known also as 10, Janpath. And there dwells a Goddess whose divinity is directly proportional to the desperation of the devotees.

Good riddance -- Urban lands freed from a dark legacy
The Union Cabinet's decision to repeal the Urban Land Ceiling and Regulation Act (ULCRA) will be widely welcomed. It was a poor piece of legislation passed during Indira Gandhi's Emergency as one more attempt to demonstrate that her heart was with the poor and the landless. In the 20 years it has been in force few of the objectives behind the Act have been achieved.

If you have anything to sell, anything at all, come to Kerala. Here is a market flush with money. According to even conservative estimates, over the last 30 years about Rs 50,000 crore have come to Kerala from foreign shores, mostly from the Gulf states. Most of this money, however, has found its way to the coffers of manufacturers of various goods outside Kerala. Tamil Nadu alone takes an estimated Rs 500 crore every year for the supply of vegetables and other food items.
