Union Minister Somu killed in copter crash
Union minister of state for defence NVN Somu died in a helicopter crash in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, near the border with China, yesterday. Somu, who represented the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Parliament, is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

JD president seeks inquiry into leak
Janata Dal (JD) president Sharad Yadav has demanded an inquiry into the leakage of the Jain Commission interim report and suggested that it could be conducted by a parliamentary committee. This is probably the first time that a Front constituent, especially one to which Prime Minister I K Gujral belongs, has publicly issued such a statement.

Karnataka attacks Naidu's solidarity with TN on Cauvery
Karnataka Major Irrigation Minister K N Nagegowda has taken strong exception to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's reported expression of solidarity with Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery issue. In a statement Nagegowda has observed that Naidu's attitude was against national interest and such an expression of solidarity, without knowing the complexities involved in the Cauvery water dispute, did not add to Naidu's stature.
