FM claims Jain panel cannot record adversely against him

[Details] Union finance minister P Chidambaram has said that the Jain commission of enquiry cannot record any "adverse" findings against him as he had appeared only as a witness before it and not as a noticee. The distinction between a speech made in Parliament and the requirements of oral evidence could be easily assessed by any court.

Joshi rules out ministry for Vidarbha

[Details] Maharashtra chief minister Manohar Joshi yesterday disappointed local Shiv Sena leaders and the packed gathering of workers by turning down the demand to appoint a separate minister to look after Vidarbha region and to create a separate ministry. The chief minister rather devoted a major part of his speech to political issues like the need to strengthen the Sena organisation in Vidarbha.
