Airport strike still on, flights affected

[Details] Contrary to the claims made by the Airports Authority of India, the work-to-rule agitation by the technical and communications officers at airports across the country were not called off on Tuesday night. The agitation which entered the fourth day on Wednesday disrupted flights, as take-offs and landings at several smaller airports across the country were affected.

APEC to revitalise sagging economies

[Details] Pacific Rim leaders ended an annual summit on Tuesday with a ringing endorsement of Asia's economic strength and a call for united action to battle its recent financial turmoil. Wrapping up two days of talks, the 18 leaders of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum called for freer trade, affirmed that the region's economic fundamentals were strong and announced three new members -- Russia, Vietnam and Peru -- would join next year.

[Details] The increasing number of attacks on the different Christian missionary institutions in the northeastern region has created a sense of insecurity among the workers, but the missionaries are not cowed down by the threats. Four missionaries have been killed so far in the region since 1992, with the killing of Father Jose Nedumattathil, principal of the Don Bosco High School in the Senapati district of Manipur, being the latest.
