RBI chief meets FM on rupee crash

[Details] The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Bimal Jalan met finance minister P Chidambaram to work out a fresh exchange rate management strategy in the light of the sharp devaluation of the rupee this week. Finance secretary Montek Singh Ahluwalia was also present at the discussions.

"Insurance autonomy cosmetic"

[Details] The new autonomy package announced yesterday for the insurance industry, consisting of six companies -- General Insurance Corporation (GIC) and its four subsidiaries, and Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) -- completely lacks substance, say insurance officials.

TAC moots 25% cut in motor insurance premia

[Details] The hike in motor insurance premia, which led to a crippling truckers strike earlier this year, may be reduced. The Tariff Advisory Committee (TAC) of General Insurance has recommended to the government that the hike can be reduced by 25-50%. This is a first of sorts as the TAC does not revise its recommendation once they are made.
