The recent resignation of P M Syed, senior vice-president and the veritable number two man in the PDP after its supremo Abdul Nasar Madani, from the primary membership of the party has dealt a crushing blow to the party in Mattancherry, one of its strongholds in the State.

The West Bengal Congress Committee had a testing time as the party lost two motions, one against the Left Front Government and the other against the Chief Minister in the West Bengal Assembly on Friday. Though losing them came as no surprise for the party, the motion, especially the no-confidence, was somewhat reconciled to the reality that it was already lost.
