Daley to lead US trade delegation to India
The United States Commerce Secretary William Daley will lead a business development mission to India from December 7. The trip, announced by Daley in Washington yesterday, will comprise a delegation of more than 30 business leaders, mostly from small and medium-sized firms, representing a wide spectrum of US industry with the expertise needed to help India modernise its own industry and infrastructure. The delegation will also visit Calcutta, Chennai and Mumbai apart from New Delhi.

SBI told to open office in Russia
The government has asked the State Bank of India and Canara Bank to open subsidiaries in Russia, to cater to the expanding trade with the nation. The subsidiaries are also expected to cater to the need of importers in the Commonwealth of Independent States. Sources in the ministry of commerce, however, said the final approval was yet to come from Russia.
| HC move to check PIL abuse
In an effort aimed at containing the growing abuse of Public Interest Litigations (PILs), the Delhi High Court has imposed a penalty of Rs 15,000 on a petitioner for filing a "private interest litigation" in the guise of a PIL. A division bench declined to entertain the PIL and directed the petitioner, Jai Bhagwan Gupta, to pay the penalty to the Delhi Legal Services Authority at the Patiala House within two weeks.
