Pakistan pay dearly for fielding lapses

[Details] The West Indies yesterday beat Pakistan by 43 runs in the Akai Singer Champions Trophy four-nation cricket tournament being played in Sharjah. Fine half centuries by Brian Lara and Stuart Williams, helped with sloppy fielding by Pakistan, propelled the West Indies to a challenging score of 275 for seven in their 50 overs. Pakistan, in reply, were bowled out for 232 in the 46th over.

Anand's birthday bash for Nikolich

[Details] Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand celebrated his 28th birthday in style by outplaying Predgac Nikolich of Bosnia in his very first game of the World Chess Championship cycle in Groningen, Netherlands on Thursday. Anand, playing black, countered the attack of his opponent in the style of former world champion Capablanca to force a resignation after 36 moves in a second round match of the first leg.
