Sena to oppose BJP in 136 seats
The Shiv Sena's electoral tie-up with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharahtra has not deterred it from fielding candidates against the BJP elsewhere. The Sena has announced that it will contest a record number of 136 seats against the BJP in 17 states other than Maharashtra in the coming Lok Sabha elections. The Sena has also requested the Election Commission to reserve the election symbol of "bow and arrow" for its candidates.
Mulayam in the race for PM
The country may get a new prime minister, if hopes of the Samajwadi Party president and Defence Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav are fulfilled. Yadav said he would be in the race for prime minister-ship if his party managed to secure 70 seats in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Triangular contest likely in reserved MP seats
A three-horse race is very much in the offing during next month's Lok Sabha elections for the 15 reserved seats in Madhya Pradesh. The ruling Congress and the opposition BJP and the Bahujan Samaj Party all have their sympathisers in the region, thus ensuring a very interesting tussle for the seats.
BJP in the net; not to be caught in web of uneasy issues
The grave political situation in the country does not seem to hamper India's political parties from keeping up with the times. Drawing inspiration from Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party and Britain's Labour Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has now got itself on to the Internet. The BJP has announced that it will launch a new website, complete with a new election theme song praising Atal Behari Vajpayee, next week.

291 MPs to lose pension
The dissolution of the 11th Lok Sabha may have been disastrous for the entire nation. But for 291 first-time members of parliament, it asssumes a greater significance. These MPs, including 17 ministers, will lose their pensions and other benefits as their membership of parliament lasted less than the minimum of four years which entitles them to such benefits.
Resentment in BJP as partymen lose tickets to new entrants
The exodus of memebers of the Congress party to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put the BJP in a critical situation. The BJP headquarters at Delhi is flocked by ticket-seekers but the entry of a host of ex-MPs from other parties, mainly the Congress, has made the task of BJP leaders even more difficult than usual. Resentment is brewing among BJP's rank and file at the prospect of party tickets being given to outsiders.
