  No cheque mate: it's cash for moves
At Lausannes, playing chess is also a pastime for the journalists covering the events. But this time, the stakes were higher with matches being played for money. Some fifty people, all claiming to be journalists rushed to play, among them a woman who said she didn't know which media she represented. Several others were seen running around asking where they could play chess for quick cash.

Balloon quest ends in comedy of errors
American adventurers Dick Rutan and David Melton parachuted to safety on Friday from their "Global Hilton" balloon after aborting their bid to make the first non-stop round-the-world balloon voyage. Television footage showed Rutan, 59, and Melton, 39, bailing out over eastern New Mexico less than four hours after liftoff from Albuquerque.
