  Tendulkar fury rages at Dhaka
Yesterday was Sachin Tendulkar's day at Dhaka in the first final of the three-nation Independence Cup. An allround display from Tendulkar -- 3 wickets and a quickfire 95 -- helped India to defeat Pakistan by 8 wickets. Pakistan, batting first, made 212 in their alloted quota of overs, a total which paled into insignificance in front of Tendulkar's brilliance.
  Australia enter final
A rookie Australian side trounced a hapless New Zealand by 131 runs to cruise into the finals of the tri-nation series at the Sydney Cricket Ground here yesterday. Set 251 to win, New Zealand who had to win to keep their hopes of a finals berth alive, simply couldn't cope with some electric Aussie fielding and were bowled out for only 119.

Seven-wicket win for India
India trounced Scotland by seven wickets to notch up their first win in the Youth World Cup Cricket Tournament at Lenasia, a Soweto suburb, on Tuesday. India, after winning the toss, opted to field and managed to restrict the Scots to a mere 103. In reply, India rattled up the required runs in just 26.3 overs, losing three wickets along the way.
Anurasiri justifies recall
Left arm spinner Don Anurasiri ended a four-year absence from Sri Lanka's Test team by snapping up three for 65. Anurasiri's feats with the ball also pushed Sri Lanka to a position of strength. At the end of the day's play, Sri Lanka had restricted Zimbabwe 251 for nine after losing the initiative earlier with Zimbabwe going to lunch on 110 for one.

Klim threatens Popov's reign
Michael Klim laid down his challenge for a third gold medal at the World Swimming Championships yesterday when he claimed the fastest heat time ahead of his illustrious training partner Alexander Popov in the 100 m freestyle. Klim, who won Monday's 200 freestyle and led off Australia's victorious 4x200 freestyle relay on Tuesday, boosted his morale for the evening's final with the pace-setting time of 49.33 seconds in the penultimate heat.
Indian spikers blank Poland
Defending champions India opened their campaign in the third Rashid International Volleyball Tournament with a superb 3-0 win over Poland here last night. Displaying clever variations in their net play and better spiking skills, the Indians won 15-2, 15-11, 15-9 against the young Poles.
