  Sonia draws flak for sparing DMK
Jayalalitha has made a frontal attack against Sonia Gandhi's election campaign, insinuating that there was something "fishy" between the DMK-TMC combine and Congress. Attacking Sonia, she said that the audience at the Sriperumbudur rally were disappointed with her speech since she did not attack those who abetted and encouraged the assassins (the DMK) and their ally (TMC).
  Sino-US pact to avoid clashes at sea
The United States and China have signed a military agreement that seeks to avert unintended conflicts at sea by opening regular channels of communications between their militaries. The deal also marks positive efforts towards peace and stability.

Making Bofors deal public may recoil on second set of papers
If the Government concedes Sonia Gandhi's demand for tabling the Bofors documents, India may not receive the second set of secret bank documents from Switzerland since it is binded through a special agreement termed "Reservation of Speciality" with the Swiss Government.

Jaya grabs the lions share in TN
The All India Anna DMK(J) will contest 23 seats in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, while its allies, the Bharatiya Janata Party, MDMK, PMK, Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress and the Janata Party will contest the remaining 17 seats as part of the alliance for 40 constituencies including the Union Territory of Pondicherry.
BJD divided over drive with BJP
The top leadership of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is divided over the first phase of joint campaign with its ally the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched on January 15 last. It is learnt that the leaders of the BJD opposed the joint campaign with the BJP even before the seat arrangements between the two allies were formalised.
