Space Shuttle Endeavour thundered into the night on a flight to take one last American to live aboard the Russian space station Mir. Andrew Thomas, who will be the last American on Mir was the main attraction at the launch site. Also on hand to witness the launch was newly renamed astronaut John Glenn, preparing for his own shuttle flight this fall.
Chirac's `stealthy' reception committee
