  Assam Governor seeks more proof from CBI
Raj Bhavan has expressed its dissatisfaction over the reply furnished by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to substantiate its charges alleging Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta's involvement in the multi-crore Letters of Credit (LoC) scam. A Raj Bhavan statement claimed the CBI's reply was inadequate to convince Governor S K Sinha to accord sanction for carrying out investigations against Mahanta.
  `Sixth Coming' tough for Vijayabhaskar
Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy is facing the toughest election of his long and chequered political career. The 78-year-old Congress leader is pitted against arch rival KE Krishnamurthy of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), who is doing everything to upset Reddy in the constituency which sent him to the Lok Sabha five times.

Congress should apologise for other sins too, says BJP
Calling the Congress election manifesto with its apology for the Babri mosque demolition a "document of desperation," the BJP yesterday said that it felt surprised as to why the party had not expressed regrets for its other "sins." Madan Lal Khurana said that if the Congress was so much concerned about the minorities why hadn't it offered an apology for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in which so many innocents had lost their lives and property.

UF leaders stick to anti-Congress stance
The United Front yesterday refused to commit itself to co-operating with the Congress in the formation of a non-BJP government at the Centre after the elections. Front leaders, Harkishen Singh Surjeet, AB Bardhan and Ram Vilas Paswan, maintained at a conference in New Delhi that their coalition would be in a position to form a government on its own.
