Clinton nominated for Nobel prize

REUTERS
OSLO, Jan 28: United States President Bill Clinton, engulfed in a sex scandal and fighting for his political life, won a nomination for the 1998 Nobel Peace Prize on Tuesday.

Three far-right members of the Norwegian parliament said they were naming Clinton for helping bolster democracy, human rights and peace in nations like the former Yugoslavia.

``Whatever problems Clinton has in the United States, you have to admit that in foreign policy he's done a great job,'' said Vidar Kleppe, deputy leader of the Progress Party who was one of the three who nominated Clinton.

He told Reuters that the nomination was unconnected to charges that Clinton had a sexual relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky that could threaten his presidency.
