Israelis gear up for Iraqi chem attack

CAIRO: Many Israelis are heading towards Army distribution centres to pick up gas masks amidst fears that Iraq could blast Tel Aviv with chemical or biological warheads.

Reports said the rush for the masks came after Richard Butler, the leader of the UN weapons inspectors delegation, said on Tuesday night that Iraq had enough biological weapons to ``blow away Tel Aviv''.

Espionage case

KOCHI: Ernakulam chief judicial magistrate Rajendran Nair today exonerated former Congress member of Parliament K V Thomas of the charges of espionage in the case relating to the unauthorised survey of theKochi coast.

Boycott dropped

LONDON: The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has dropped former Test opener Geoffrey Boycott as a radio commentator for England's cricket tour of the West Indies after his conviction in a French court for assaulting his former girlfriend. He has also been dropped from a radio programme.

Pakblast kills 1

LAHORE: A bomb planted on a bus killed a youth and injured 16 others today in a roadside village some 30 km from Lahore, police said. They said the explosion occurred at Mureedke shortly after midday. No other details were immediately available.
