Tipu's kin to contest elections

BANGALORE: Prince Asif Ali Shah, great grandson of Tipu Sultan, has announced that he would contest the coming Lok Sabha polls from Bangalore North constituency. In a statement here, Shah said that he had decided to contest the elections only after invitation from the general public and meeting the constituency's voters over the last two months.

Tripura rebels

AGARTALA: Altogether 32 rebel candidates have filed their nominations against official nominees in different assembly segments in Tripura. While 30 rebel candidates filed as Congress candidates, two nominations filed their nominations as CPI(M) candidates for elections to the 60-member Assembly in the State.

Women voters

HYDERABAD: Women voters outnumber men in 28 out of 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, accounting for two-thirds of total seats, but ironically the fair sex got raw deal from political parties fighting for power. The Congress has fielded three women candidates,Telugu Desam and BJP nominated two each for the forthcoming L S elections.

AP BJP list

HYDERABAD: Film star Krishnam Raju and a sitting MP Atmacharan Reddy figure in the final list of BJP candidates in Andhra Pradesh. BJP, contesting 38 seats leaving four to NTR-TDP, has accommodated 12 candidates who defected from Congress, Telugu Desam and NTR-TDP, State BJP president V Rama Rao told reporters here today.
