My passion for politics is not a passing phenomenon: Sonia
Sonia Gandhi made it clear today that she is in politics to stay, though she has decided not to contest elections from Amethi "for the time being". Her announcement to stay away from the electoral arena has come as a disappointment to Congressmen in UP and other northern states which might have otherwise been galvanised.
Vajpayee promises law to solve Ayodhya issue
Atal Behari Vajpayee today said that if the BJP was voted to power, it would introduce a legislation to solve the Ayodhya issue only if all efforts for a negotiated settlement fail. Lashing out at the Congress, he said the party was on an apologising spree only in view of the coming Lok Sabha polls, he added that people could see through its politics and would not accept an apology for its deeds.

Bhagat, Tytler, Sajjan denied tickets
Following overt hints from 10, Janpath, the Congress today took a step towards ridding itself of its anti-Sikh image by denying tickets to H K L Bhagat, Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar from Delhi and propping up relatively non-controversial candidates in their place. The axing of the infamous trio, all alleged to be directly involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi, came after a protracted struggle. 10, Janpath was apparently insistent that they be kept out at any cost especially after Sonia had expressed regret for Operation Bluestar and the riots which followed.
Karunakaran keen on LS; throws dampener on Cong plans
With the entire Congress election committee, barring A K Antony and Vayalar Ravi, questioning the wisdom of K Karunakaran -- a Rajya Sabha member -- contesting the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat, the veteran leader's political stock nose-dived in New Delhi. However, given Karunakaran's seniority in the party, an election sub-committee was supposed to meet again today to thrash out the issue.

Moopanar offers RS seat to CPM in placatory bid
Tamil Maanila Congress president G K Moopanar offered a Rajya Sabha seat to the Tamil Nadu unit of the Communist Party Marxist (CPM) in an effort to placate the party and bring it back into the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-Tamil Maanila Congress front. The CPM, offended by the offer of a single (Coimbatore) constituency by the DMK, had decided to contest on its own in the coming Lok Sabha polls.
Gauthami is BJP's answer to Rajni
Film actress Gauthami is all set to actively campaign for the BJP candidates in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh in the next fortnight. She has decided to spare time for the party's propaganda inspite of a very busy shooting schedule.
