JANUARY 29:Sky too deserts BoycottLONDON: Former England cricketing legend Geoffrey Boycott suffered his second blow in two days when satellite broadcaster BSKYB said they would not be using him for the forthcoming Test series with the West Indies which begins today.
The 57-year-old former opening batsman had been axed by BBC Radio on Tuesday pending the outcome of his appeal against a conviction for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Margaret Moore.
Peter Nicol is the new PSA No 1
LONDON: Scot Peter Nicol (24) ousted Pakistani Jansher Khan as world No 1, the Professional Squash Association (PSA) said on Wednesday. The 24-year-old is the first Briton to lead the men's rankings, to be published on February 1.
Nicol enjoyed his best year in 1997, winning four titles and reaching the semi-finals in all the PSA events he entered. He beat Jansher three times in succession last year.
Pele to resign as Sports Minister
BRASILIA: Brazilian Sports Minister Pele plans to stand down duringthe World Cup in June to make money as a television commentator.
Brazilian law does not allow ministers to take temporary leave. But Pele, who said he losses $ 1 million a year working for the government, hopes to resign in May. Pele has been offered a World Cup contract by Rede Globo, Brazil's biggest television network.
