11 kilos of heroine seized

  • Officers of the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) seized 11 kgs of heroine, valued at Rs three crore in the international market, from three foreign nationals at Grant Road on Wednesday.

    NCB director Omprakash said the heroine is of Pakistani origin.

    He informed that the NCB had intercepted one Ugandan, Mkawuliere (32), who was carrying 1.2 kgs of herione at Sahar airport on Tuesday. He gave a tip-off about a Zimbabwe national, Jerrison L Mayo (35), who was later arrested with 10 kgs of heroine. When interrogated, Mayo revealed the name of his accomplice, Kasim (45), who was residing in a hotel at Colaba. Kasim is a Nigerian national. All three have been remanded to the NCB's custody till February 10.

    Woman held for smuggling drugs

  • A 70-year-old woman involved in smuggling drugs was arrested by the narcotic cell of the crime branch with 2 kgs of brown sugar, valued at Rs four lakh, at Grant Road on January 14. Police sources said the accused, Noori YAli Sheikh alias Alis Ammi, was wanted in three cases of drug smuggling. Sub-inspector Asmita Bhosle of the narcotics cell said, "We had laid a trap at SVP Road after receiving a tip-off and nabbed her when she arrived." Sheikh has been remanded to judicial custody till February 9.
