4 suffocate to death in septic tank

NEW DELHI, January 29: Four persons including a Delhi Police constable died of suffocation after they were trapped inside a septic tank in the Bawana area under Narela police station this evening. The police said that one person was admitted to a local hospital in an unconscious state.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 5.15 p.m. at the residence of Fateh Singh in the Vijay Chowk area. All the victims, between 20 to 25 years of age, were flushing out human excreta from an eight-feet-deep tank, the police said. Satish, 25, a constable in Delhi Police (Band unit) also lost his life in a bid to save those trapped inside the tank. Anil, 20, a resident of Balmiki Colony, was rescued by local residents. A case has been registered against the house-owner under Section 304A IPC at the Narela police station. No arrest has been made so far.

The victims were later identified as Anup, 20, Ajit, 22 and Jitendra, 22.
