  No extension for CBI chief
The CBI director R C Sharma will not be able to continue in office following completion of his tenure on January 31. The Supreme Court yesterday rejected Sharma's plea which sought deletion of the Supreme Court ruling in the hawala case where it has asked the Centre to not continue him in office. This ruling has effectively put paid to Sharma's prospects of receiving an extension beyond his stipulated tenure.
Legal luminaries divided on death verdict in Rajiv assassination case
The legal community in India has proferred a diverse reaction to the landmark judgement in the Rajiv Gandhi assasination case. US ready to use force "unilaterally" in Iraq
The United States has said it is prepared to "unilaterally" use force against Iraq if the allies do not provide any support. The latest US statement came in the wake of reports that Russia has declined to support a US offensive against Iraq. With the Arab states also preferring to stay on the sidelines, the US has, however, stated that it has kept its options open.
Sonia, Kesri defy air traffic norms
The Air Traffic Control at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Wednesday faced a difficult situation when the helicopters carrying Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Sitaram Kesri landed at the airport. The landing was in violation of a NOTAM (notice to airmen) which had banned all non-scheduled and private aircraft from taking off, landing or flying within a 400 km radius of the Capital.

Testifying before Congress on Wednesday on the projected national security threats to the United States, CIA chief George Tenet listed South Asia as a regional trouble spot, a favourite American epithet, and said relations between India and Pakistan remain poor.
TV jokes hits Clinton below the belt
His sexual escapades have made US President Bill Clinton the target of many jokes in all kinds of media in the US. Ever since news of his alleged affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky broke on last Wednesday, late night TV shows, comedy clubs and the ubiquitous World WideWeb are saturated with a stream of salacious jokes that are circulating faster and are more damaging to the Presidency than any El Nino current.
