  The comeback man
It's been a roller coaster ride. In 1996, he was the undisputed dream merchant of TV -- he had directed around 1000 episodes and was producing four and a half hours of software every week. In 1997, he was out of business. Now Raman Kumar is back -- with the daily soap Deewar (DD1) and the comedy Yeh Hai Zindagi (Zee). On the anvil is a serial on Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, which will star Pooja Bhatt.
  Guess Woh's coming to dinner
Fear is the key. Going by the viewership figures of Zee Horror Show and Aahat it would appear that fear is also TRPs. Now taking the highway to `spiritual' success is the new horror show Woh(Zee). At first glance Woh looks to have supped generously on Hollywood horror flicks. The `Joker' looks suspiciously like the doll in Child's Play and the archaeology team who are mis-fortunate enough to stumble across the `dark forces' appear to have para-dropped straight from the sets of The Exorcist.

Body Line
What is shiny, sleek with beautiful curves? What purrs, never roars and moves like a dream? If you say a motor car, auto-suggestions obviously exercise a profound effect on you. And obviously you were not watching the Femina Miss India contest (DD1). If you had been (watching), you'd know the correct answer to both questions: the contestants.
Mr Nice Guy
Throwing away an upwardly-mobile career in Central America is typical of Mahesh Thakur's impulsive streak. Five years in the cut-throat world of marketing, and this Masters in Business Administration decided enough is enough. One fine day, instead of going to the office, he hopped on to the next flight and headed for Mumbai. Mahesh decided that the time had come for him to act on his dream.

Sikdar releases Mamata's book; in her absence
And finally Mamata Banerjee came out with her thesis that `neither communalism nor secularism, but humanism can save a crisis-struck India' in English after her two successful semi-autobiographical experiments in Bengali earlier. True to her type, she managed to keep herself preoccupied with her electioneering somewhere else. And at the same time convincing the State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tapan Sikdar to release the book.
Zygo: The word is spreading fast
If words like Qi and Xu confound you, it's okay. They are meant to. These words belong to a very special dictionary - the Scrabble players lexicon. Peppered with words that mean `life force' in Chinese, the more uncommon the word, the better. Swapping strategy while word building was commonplace at the Zygo Scrabble Club's first play session. Nearly 30 scrabble enthusiasts had gathered on a sleepy Sunday afternoon at the SNDT University, Santa Cruz (W), to challenge each other to a word duel.
