  Gujarat Cong rules out pact with RJP
The Gujarat Congress has finally decided to sever its alliance with the Shankarsinh Vaghela-led Rashtriya Janata Party. The state unit of the Congress even announced its list for all the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha seats on Tuesday evening even as a desperate Vaghela was trying to finalise his list of candidates for the polls till late night.
  Iraq crisis: Yelstin warns of world war
In his most blunt statement so far, Russian President Boris Yeltsin has warned that the possible use of force by the United States in the Gulf could trigger a world war. Turning up the heat against the US, he accused US President Bill Clinton of acting too leisurely in the dispute over United Nations (UN) weapons inspection in Iraq.

Grindlays told to pay Rs 912-cr to NHB
The Special Court handling cases related to the securities scam of 1992 has ruled in favour of National Housing Bank (NHB) in the legal battle between NHB and ANZ Grindlays Bank. The court set aside the Rs 912-crore arbitration award given by a three-member arbitration panel in favour of ANZ in March last year. ANZ has, however, said that it would take the matter to Supreme Court.
Concor GDR put off
The Centre has decided to postpone disinvestment of shares of the Container Corporation of India (Concor) in the international market through a global depository receipt (GDR) issue. The core group of secretaries on disinvestment decided to postpone the Concor GDR issue to a more opportune time after the forthcoming general elections.

TV channels defy EC as DD loses revenue
Doordarshan, the state-owned television network, is running heavy losses, thanks to a directive from the Election Commission (EC) banning it from airing any programmes featuring candidates contesting the elections. Although the ruling is applicable to private channels also, it has not prevented them from airing programmes in violation of the ruling. This has ensured that while Doordarshan suffers massive losses, private channels rake in profits.
20 die as US plane clips cable car wires in Italian resort
Twenty people aboard a cable car in an Italian ski-resort were killed on Tuesday when a US military plane on a training flight cut a supporting cable, sending their gondola crashing 80 metres (260 feet) to the ground. Rescuers said the bodies of 11 men and nine women had been recovered from the wreckage of the cable car at the resort of Cavalese near Trento in the Dolomite mountains of northeastern Italy.
