Pratima claims gold

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA  
JAMSHEDPUR, February 5: Pratima Kumar of Karnataka bagged the gold medal, lifting a total of 185 kgs (snatch 80 kgs, jerk 105 kgs) in the women's 58 kg class on the second day of the 50th men's and 13th women's Senior National weightlifting championship here today.

While Andhra Pradesh's K Krishna Kumari claimed the second spot by lifting a total of 167.5 kgs, Kashmiri Kaur (Del) stood third with her total lift of 162.5 kgs.

In the 63 kg class, Manipur's P Khoni Devi lifted 187.5 kgs (snatch 80 kgs, jerk 107.5 kgs) claiming the gold, Nansita Devi (Police) and C Mohaneswari (Tamil Nadu) had to be satisfied with second and third spots for their total lift of 185 kgs and 170 kgs respectively.

In the men's 56 kg section, D Wilson of (SSCB) scored the highest mark with a total lift of 242.5 kgs (snatch 107.5 kgs, jerk 135 kgs). T Muthu (Rly) lifted 237.5 kgs (snatch 107.5 kgs, jerk 130 kgs) followed by Maharashtra's Duraiarasan (snatch 105 kgs, jerk 125 kgs, total 230 kgs).

Durai, however, claimed gold inthe inter-state championship, lifting 230 kgs (snatch 105, jerk 125). Durai was followed by G Veerabhadran, who lifted 227.5 kgs, followed by M Sundareshan (Mah) (total 227.5 kgs).
