Dogra regiment in last eight

February 5: Dogra Regiment entered the quarter-final of the Delhi Hockey Championship defeating Delhi Youth 3-0 at the Shivaji Stadium here on Thursday. They led by a lone goal at half time. Suresh Kumar (2) and Kuldeep Singh were the scorers.

Delhi Transport Undertaking also made it to the quarter finals by defeating C.N.Blues 4-1 via tie-breaker. The teams were one-all at the end of regulation time in which J.Tirkey scored for C.N.Blues while Vijay Kumar struck for DTC. In the tie-breaker, Anil Kumar, Shiv Kumar and Pop Singh scored for DTC while C.N.Blues failed to convert any of the strokes.

FCI (North Zone) also moved into the last eight stage defeating Sonnet Club 3-1 after leading 3-0 at half time. Rajeev Panchal, Parampal Singh and Navbir Singh scored for FCI while Nanak Singh got the lone goal for Sonnet.

Punjab advance

Simmi Rani and Tarminder Kaur led Punjab University into the pre quarter-finals of the All India Inter-University tennistournament getting past Gujarat University 2-0.

The other matches turned out to be non-starters when three teams failed to show up. Kerala University got a walk-over from University of Health Sciences (Vijayawada), Mysore University from Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya (Jabalpur), and Pune University from Nagarjuna.

Rakesh's breezy 81

An unbeaten 81 by Rakesh Sharma enabled Syndicate Bank beat Indian Bank by 90 runs and moved into the semi-final of the 4th in the Banfin Cricket Tournament at the Shivaji College ground.

Syndicate Bank: 233 for 6 in 35 overs (Rakesh Sharma 81 n.o, Badrinarain 46, Bhola Shankar 33, Dharamvir 28, Mohinder 2 for 38).

Indian Bank: 143 in 27.3 overs (Mohinder 51, K.C.Joshi 24, Ashok Sharma 4 for 17, Rajiv 2 for 21).

Easy for Nirula's

Nirula's recorded an easy 108-run victory over Ashoka in the Inter Hotel Cricket Tournament at the Siri Fort ground.

Nirula's: 176 in 29.5 overs (R.K. Chand 61, P.Jerry 28, Pankaj Saxena 3 for 35, Rajiv2 for 23);

Ashoka: 68 in 22.3 overs (Rajesh 24 n.o, Mahesh 2 for 10, Jerry 2 for 12, Raj Kumar Chand 2 for 17).

Mount Fort win

Mount Fort (34 for 2 in 8.2 overs: Yati Arora 6 n.o, Ayush Bansal 6 n.o) defeated C.F.S. Rajouri Garden (33 in 14 overs: Lovkesh Sehgal 10) by eight wickets in the Bro Dunne Inter-School Cricket Tournament.

Airlines beat DDA

Indian Airlines defeated DDA `B' 2-1 in the Inter-Office Carrom Championship being played at Vikas Minar DDA sports club. In the other matches, RBI `A' beat AIIMS 3-0, NPL beat RBI `B' 2-1, PNB beat Hindustan Times 2-1 and Delhi Audit beat Bank of Baroda 3-0.

Blues triumph

Delhi Blues, aided by useful knocks from Rohit Rallhan and Sanjay Kumar, triumphed over Delhi Vidyut Board by 53 runs in the pool C match of the first Hari Singh Tyagi TYCA League at the Mohan Meakins ground.

Delhi Blues: 239 for 8 in 40 overs (Rohit Rallhan 78, Sanjay Kumar 59, Naval Singh 2 for 37, Ajit Chaudhary 2 for 50);

Delhi VidyutBoard: 186 in 33.5 overs (Ramesh Chandra 54, Manoj Kumar 24, Surender Kumar 20, Ram Babu Aggarwal 3 for 28).

Don Bosco win

Don Bosco School (186 for 5 in 20 overs) defeated St George School (110 in 19.3 overs) in the Georgian Cup Tournament for under 15.
