Bairstow's death was cry for help

LONDON: Depressed former England cricketer David Bairstow hanged himself in a tragic cry for help, an inquest was told on Friday. The former Yorkshire wicketkeeper and captain was last month found hanging in his Yorkshire home by his wife, who isafflicted with cancer and two young children days after he saw a psychiatrist for depression.

Recording an open verdict, the coroner said Bairstow's psychiatrist believed the cricketer was hopeful his problems could be sorted out. The inquest heard that Bairstow, 46, had tried to take an overdose of tablets before Christmas because he was depressed over a series of personal traumas.
