Lanka estate stir continues

COLOMBO, February 6: Sri Lanka's labour minister called an emergency meeting today as a strike by some 400,000 Sri Lankan plantation workers demanding higher wage˙entered its second day, government officials said. They said plantation management companies and trade unions would be present at the meeting called by Labour Minister John Seneviratne to resolve the dispute.The planters association of Ceylon cancelled a scheduled news conference today, saying officials would be in the meeting with the minister.
