Priests launch protest

Rajendra Khatry
NAGPUR, February 6: Three Catholic priests here are up in arms against the chief trustee of the Nagpur Roman Catholic Diocesan Corporation Private Ltd., Archbishop Leonard D'Souza, for alleged violation of rules by him regarding property of the Roman Catholic church.

The three priests, Jimmy D'Mello, judicial vicar and incharge of the tribunal court of the Roman Catholic Church, Father Sebastian D'Mello of the Ajni Catholic Church and Bryce Coutinho of the Untkhana Church have challenged the trustee for flouting Section 36 of the Bombay Public Trust Act.

Having been unsuccessful to sort out the matter internally, the three priests, who are the beneficiaries of the trust, have lodged a complaint against Archbishop Leonard D'Souza and another trustee, Auxiliary Bishop Sylvestor Monteiro at the Charity Commissioner's office in the city. Taking a serious view of the episode, the Charity Commissioner had also sent summons to the two priests to be present in his office recently.
