  Hussain, Fraser frustrate WI
Nasser Hussain and Angus Fraser frustrated West Indies for nearly an hour and a half with obdurate and courageous batting on the second morning of the second cricket Test between England and West Indies yesterday. England, 175 for eight overnight, added 39 runs more before they were bowled out for 214 just before lunch with Hussain remaining unbeaten on 61. In reply, West Indies had made eight runs without loss at lunch.
  Kiwis coast to easy win
New Zealand walloped Zimbabwe by eight wickets in the second of their ongoing One-Day International cricket series at Wellington yesterday. Zimbabwe, batting first, only managed a meagre 138 runs with paceman Shayne O'Connor claiming a haul of five for 39. In reply, New Zealand rattled up the required runs in just 28.2 overs with opener Nathan Astle making 67 runs.

Greg Rusedski in semi-finals
Top seed Greg Rusedski defeated Czech Martin Damm 6-1 6-4 and advance to the semifinals of the $400,000 Croatian Indoor Men's tournament yesterday. Rusedski now meets fifth seed Marc Rosset of Switzerland, who beat German Rainer Schuttler 6-2 6-2. Meanwhile, in a second-round match, Boris Becker was defeated 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (7-9), 6-4 by home favourite Goran Ivanisevic.
Paranjpe slams fine century
Jatin Paranjpe smashed a brilliant 115 while Wasim Jaffer and Gagan Khoda missed out on centuries as India "A" hit a big 382 for five in their first match of the Pakistan tour against the Karachi City Cricket Association˙yesterday. Jaffer's innings came after a superb 180-run opening partnership between Wasim Jaffer (90) and captain Gagan Khoda (95).

Pak PM refuses to meet Akram, says report
Wasim Akram, the deposed Pakistan cricket team captain, has said that he will meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a bid to clear his name and be reinstated in the national squad. However, Akram's comeback bid is likely to be stillborn, if reports in the Pakistani media are to be believed. According to Pakistan's premier English daily, The News, Akram has been refused an audience with Sharif.
Fancied Sushant crashes out
Eighth-seeded Sushant Saxena of Uttar Pradesh crashed out of the 62nd Bristol Senior National Badminton Championship in Hyderabad yesterday. Sushant, who had a first round bye, lost in straight sets 15-4, 15-3 to Air India's Chetan Anand.
