Book blames top Cong leaders for anti-Sikh riots
A book on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Government Organised Carnage: November 1984, was released yesterday by some of the victims whose families were killed in the riots. The book has categorically stated that the violence inflicted on the Sikhs in 1984 was not communal in nature and is a pre-planned and well-organised crime committed by a Congress government against the Sikhs.
Unwed mothers on the rise in tribal belts
Kamala left her child near the hospital campus. Sukuri deserted her illegitimate child. Mandi too left her child on a temple veranda. On an average, three such cases are reported in the district of Jeypore every month. Of late, such inhuman incidents in the tribal areas have increased either because some unwed mothers don't have the guts to face the world or because they are deserted by their husbands or because they lack the financial security required to bring up a child.

Further quakes jolt north-east Afghanistan
Another series of tremors jolted remote northeastern Afghanistan yesterday, killing another 150 people just days after an earthquake touched off massive landslides that left between 2,000 and 4,000 dead.
MoD dithers, US prepares forces for Mauritius
Delay on the part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to commit an Army Special Forces instruction team for Mauritius has opened up the possibility of the United States Army sending its troops to the Indian Ocean island nation. The request for a Special Forces team to go and evaluate the Mauritius armed forces requirement for that highly skilled capability came to South Block in November last, despite which the proposal still hangs fire with the MoD.
