Rites of passage
Born in Indore in 1916 as Lalitabai Hanuman Prasad, Lalita Pawar started her career as a child artist. In those days she used her stage name, Ambu. She married stunt film-maker, G P Pawar who directed most of her later silent and early sound films. Pawar's partner, Chandrarao Kadam usually played her hero in films like Daivi Khajina, Jalta Jigar, Nek Dost and Pyari Katar.

1957: Year that was
1957 saw a lot of developments for the Indian film scenario. The governments from India and Pakistan signed a film trade agreement. Films like Jaagte raho, Pyaasa, Mother India, Naya Daur and Do Aankhen Baarah Haat dominated the screen.
