  BJP touch to Prasar Bharati
On a day that the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) national agenda promised to ``improve'' the original Prasar Bharati Act, one of the board members, Hindi writer Rajendra Yadav, dared the party to remove them. The BJP has made no secret of its desire to change the composition of the Prasar Bharati Board, by allowing the October 1997 ordinance to lapse.
  Jayalalitha written all over
AIADMK leader J Jayalalitha's influence on the BJP-led alliance's National Agenda was evident. The agenda is in English, not Hindi; Tamil folk music was played at the releasing ceremony. And the AIADMK leader got pride of place: to the left of Prime Minister-designate Atal Behari Vajpayee.

Subramanian tipped to be Cabinet Secy
Retired Foreign Service officer and convenor of the BJP's foreign affairs cell Brijesh Mishra was yesterday appointed Principal Secretary to Prime Minister-designate Atal Behari Vajpayee. Vajpayee will, however, hold back three other crucial bureaucratic appointments till he wins the confidence vote in the Lok Sabha on March 27.

Buoyed by the massive victory in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra, Congress yesterday launched a blistering attack on the BJP-Shiv Sena government in the State Assembly and even accused Chief Minister Manohar Joshi of corruption. In a series of stunning disclosures, Congress member R R Patil alleged that while there was suspicious links between leading builders and Chief Minister Manohar Joshi, a section of his cabinet colleagues were involved in one or the other multi-crore scandals.

JD splits, five RS members join BJD
After its dismal performance in the Lok Sabha polls, the Janata Dal on Tuesday formally split in the Rajya Sabha when five of its 11 MPs joined Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Announcing the split at a press conference, Dilip Ray said the five-member group had met Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Krishna Kant and conveyed their decision to form a separate group in the House.
UN move against Jewish settlements
Condemning Israel for building settlements in occupied Palestinian territories, the United Nations General Assembly backed a Palestinian call for convening an international conference to force Israel to protect Palestinian rights. In a resolution adopted on Tuesday, the 185-member Assembly condemned the Israeli construction of a new settlement in Jabel Abu Ghneim and all other illegal action in occupied territories.
