  The American pie
All across the world, one out of every three students who decides to study outside his / her home ends up attending a US college or university. The reasons for this are a liberal, flexible education system coupled with the diversity of educational opportunities and universities possessing cutting edge technologies. In the US, students begin higher education after completing 12 years of elementary and secondary school.
  Flying out of sight
The Great Indian Bustard, a rare and endangered species, is the state bird of Rajasthan. Commonly known as Godawan in Rajasthan and Maldhok in Maharashtra, it is fond of open grasslands in dry regions. Bustards are well-built with the male (cock) standing at 122 cm and the female (hen) at 92 cms. They are omnivorous and feed mainly on grasshoppers, among insects.

Bengal CPM draws flak for stand on Cong
The State unit of the CPI has criticised its ally the CPI(M)'s stand on the issue of support to a Congress-led government at the Centre. The State secretary of the CPI, Manju Majumdar, said the party felt that since they have fought the elections both against the Congress and the BJP, they cannot follow the politics of convenience and decide to back a Congress-led government.
AP seeks extension of crop insurance
The entire Opposition lambasted the State Government on the cotton farmers issue even as the State Assembly yesterday condoled the death of scores of farmers who had committed suicides during last three months. Members observed a two-minute silence.

Focus on TDP now to sort out Speaker issue
Chances of evolving a consensus for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker looked remote today with the BJP reiterating its stand that it was ready for a contest if the Congress and the United Front went ahead with their proposal to field their joint candidate. Congress too appears ready for a showdown. Party spokesman V N Gadgil said they would put up their own candidate for the post.
Infrastructure cess for uplift of Karnataka
In a significant decision, the Karnataka Government extended the cess levied on Bangaloreans to the rest of the state calling it the Infrastructure Cess. The cess will be utilised to develop roads and bridges in rural areas, state finance minister Siddaramaiah announced while presenting a Rs 196.62 crore deficit budget for the year 1998-99 in the State Assembly on Wednesday.
