  Sonia to crack the whip soon
A crackdown of sorts appears to be imminent in the Congress after the April 6 special All India Congress Committee (AICC) session where party president Sonia Gandhi's election is to be ratified.Sonia hinted as much when asked when she would take disciplinary action. At least three State units -- Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa -- are in the grip of widespread dissidence.
  HC sets 3-day deadline in Cong case
The Delhi High Court has given a three-day ultimatum to the Central Government to state on record whether it was interested to probe a case pertaining to the receipt of Rs 3.75 crore as donations by the Congress party from four overseas companies in 1993-94, in alleged violation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). The court also expressed its displeasure over the poor progress in the investigations.

Basu wants new parties in UF
West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu has called for enlisting the support of new political parties in the United Front, to fight the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which managed to capture power at the Centre on the "plank of Hindutva". Describing it as an "ideological fight", Basu said that the country was in danger with the "communal and corrupt" BJP capturing power.
Sutar hints at a CM-Hazare deal
Controversial Shiv Sena leader Shashikant Sutar yesterday fired yet another salvo against the ruling Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance in the state, saying he has been "politically murdered" at the behest of veteran social worker Anna Hazare. He said despite specific charges of corruption made by him against Hazare, the Government had not appointed any commission to probe the allegations.

Farooq Abdullah to call it quits before term ends
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah yesterday said he would resign from his post and also as National Conference president before the end of the term of his government. Abdullah also added that he would not be interested in the next elections and asked his partymen to look for a new leader.
Cong-BSP pact to stay for ZP poll
The Congress in Punjab is likely to continue its alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) in the ensuing elections to the panchayati raj institutions in the State. Although a formal decision is yet to be taken, PCC chief Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said that partymen were almost unanimous in favour of continuing the alliance.
