Nigerian swindlers target Indians, promising non-existent deals
The Nigerian High Commission in Delhi has alerted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) about Nigeria-based swindlers, who have arrived in India after duping thousands of people in Europe, USA and East Asia. The swindlers have been targeting people from the business community and charity organisations by offering them `unbelievably good business deals'.
Vet college fashions a new statement on animal rights
For once fur at a fashion show did not raise the hackles of animal lovers. In fact, they clapped and cheered as models strutted down the ramp. The show organised by the Bombay Veterinary College, Parel, as part of their annual function, Spandan '98 last evening was perhaps meant to set some wrongs right. So as the spot lights came on and music started flowing out came two nattily dressed stray dogs happily trotting beside their human escorts clad in ordinary clothes. Yes, the models of the evening.

Delhi monuments spruced up, but at cost of authenticity, say consevators
Some of Delhi's famous heritage monuments -- Purana Qila, Humayan's Tomb, Sabz Burg, Begumpuri mosque, the Archaeological Park and the Qutub complex -- have been spruced up and occasionally appear even spanking new (like the Qutub Minar) with manicured colonial gardens, brand new facades and well laid-out driveways that can rival any English manor. But the opposing groups of conservators is saying authenticity of the monuments is being lost just to make them look good.

New Prasar Bharati Board likely soon
The fate of the Prasar Bharati Board, including that of its outspoken and controversial member-executive Surinder Singh Gill, was sealed yesterday with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition Government announcing its decision to "allow to lapse" the 1997 Presidential Ordinance constituting the present board. "The present Ordinance will be allowed to lapse and a new Bill will be brought before Parliament after its approval by the Cabinet," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana announced.
