  Pak test-fires N-head capacity missile
Pakistan yesterday successfully test-fired its intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM), Ghauri, capable of carrying nuclear warheads, that Pakistani scientists claim can target most major Indian cities. The latest surface-to-surface missile with a range of 1,500 km and a payload 700 kg is the most powerful weapon in the country's defence armoury.

SC ruling favours regular employees
The Supreme Court has ruled that the services of a confirmed employee in both private and Government sectors cannot be legally terminated by a simple notice. The ruling was handed down by a Division Bench comprising Justices S Saghir Ahmad and MJ Rao, while dismissing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) by a public sector undertaking, Uptron India Ltd, challenging a judgment of the Allahabad High Court.

Israel renews warning to Arafat
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu charged that a bomb explosion which killed a senior Islamic militant in the West Bank last week was new proof that Palestinian police were not seriously fighting terrorism. He said that there exists a widespread Hamas terrorist infrastructure in its territory against which the Palestinian authority is not acting systematically.
IA women up in arms against `saree scam'
Women employees of Indian Airlines are agitated by what they allege is a saree scam. They have returned the sarees supplied to them by the airline, claiming that these are defective and old. The sarees are the part of the official uniform given by the airline to its woman employees and were supplied by Mrignayani, the Madhya Pradesh State Government Emporium.
