  Kashmir issue may stall talks with Pak
The bilateral dialogue between India and Pakistan seems fated to run aground, especially after the Pakistani Foreign Minister's reiteration that Kashmir must be retained as a "core issue" in any future talks. Prime ministers A B Vajpayee and Nawaz Sharif are scheduled to meet during the SAARC meeting in Colombo in the first week of July in an event that will decide the decide the future of Indo-Pak talks.
  Fresh fighting kills 41, injures 300 in Lanka
At least 41 soldiers were killed and nearly 300 injured as fierce fighting erupted between Tamil Tigers and government forces advancing to take control of a strategic highway in northern Sri Lanka on Monday. Apart from the casualties, one tank was destroyed while two other tanks and an Mi24 helicopter gunship were damaged in the fighting which lasted for nearly six hours.

Flying high: Badal to get an executive-class chopper
The Punjab Government has a floated a global tender to purchase an executive-class helicopter for use by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. The tender notice has appeared in three reputed international dailies -- The Wall Street Journal, Le Monde and The Times of London, besides some national dailies. Tenders close on May 15.
High Court reserves orders in Kesri assets probe plea
The Delhi High Court yesterday reserved orders on a petition seeking an expeditious CBI inquiry into allegations that former Congress president Sitaram Kesri amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and that he bribed MLAs to get elected to Rajya Sabha. The orders were reserved after the CBI filed a comprehensive status report on the probe.

Notice to CBI on discharge plea in JMM case
The trial court yesterday issued a notice to the CBI to file a reply by today on a plea by three former MPs seeking discharge from the JMM MPs bribery case in the wake of the recent Supreme Court judgment. Special judge Ajit Bharihoke issued the notice to the agency after the MPs moved an application saying they should be discharged from the case.
More than 50 killed in Bogota plane crash
A Boeing 727 leased by Air France crashed near Bogota shortly after take-off on Monday, killing all of the more than 50 people on board, officials said. There were conflicting reports on the exact number of people on the jetliner, with the Ecuadoran airline Tame, which owns the plane, saying 61 died while Air France put the toll at 53.
