Govt to dump soft-on-Pak Gujral doctrine
The government is formulating a major foreign policy shift on India's neighbourhood, effectively dumping former prime minister I K Gujral's soft, public posture on Pakistan and moving towards firmer ties with the other, smaller states. The Prime Minister's Office, referring to Pakistan, said "there would be no more unilateralism" in India's foreign policy, adding, however, that "for the other SAARC nations reciprocity need not be in equal measure."

Govt in a bind over Naga ceasefire
By next Friday insurgents in Nagaland could well be re-loading their rifles. It is on this day (April 30) the security forces' ceasefire with them comes to an end and there is still no move in sight for its renewal. The Union Home Ministry is dithering on whether to continue the ceasefire for another three months.
