Arshad Ansari in under-21 team

MARGAO, May 3: Ten players from Bengal have been selected in the Indian football squad announced today for the Rajiv Gandhi International (under-21) Tournament to be held at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda-Margao from May 5.

According to a release by the secretary of the Goa Football Association, Albert Colaco, hosts Goa have four players, Punjab, Kerala and Karnataka have two players each while Maharashtra and Railways have one each.

The team is led by goalkeeper Kalyan Choubey from Bengal. Ivosajh from Slovenia is the chief coach of the team. Naguendra is the assistant coach while Brahmanand Shankwalker is the goalkeepers coach. Socorro Coutinho is the liason oficer for the Indian team, the release said.

The squad

Goalkeeper: Kalyan Choubey (Capt, Bengal), Gopal Das (Bengal), Karashwer Singh (Punjab).

Defenders: Binesh (Kerala), Suresh (Kerala), Hussain Mustafi (Bengal), Falguni Datta (Bengal), Pijush Nandy (Bengal), JS Parmer (Punjab), Simon Peter (Railways), Lolendro Singh(Bengal).

Midfielders: Renedy Singh (Bengal), Sasthi Duley (Bengal), Satish Kumar (Karnataka), U Babu (Karnataka), Melvyn Rodrigues (Goa), Venkatesh (Goa), Prahalad Rawat (Goa).

Forwards: Dipundu Biswas (Bengal), Balai Mondal (Bengal), Arshad Ansari (Maharashtra) and Alvito D'Cunha (Goa).
