Preet and Premjit shine

CHANDIGARH, May 3: Spurred by a 78 run fourth wicket partnership -- in only 45 balls -- by the southpaw opener Preet Mohan Singh (52 retd.) and Premjit Singh Hundal (40), Fighter `B' routed Star Eleven by 63 runs and qualify for the super League of the second Grow Green Cup Chandigarh League Cricket.

Preet hit four boundaries and a six, before succumbing to the heat, while Premjit had five fours and a six in his knock as Fighter `B' scored 194 for 7. Star Eleven were bundled out for 131 as the Fighter `B' spinners capitalised on the low bounce of the wicket.

Godrej `A' beat High Court XI by seven wickets to book their place in the super league. They were helped by Sukhwinder Tinkoo's knock of 43 and left arm spinner Girish Bhanot's spell of 3 for 14.

Meanwhile, two super league matches were also played today. Fighter `A' bowlers, led by left arm spinner Jaswant Rai, restricted DYFI to 169 for 6 in 25 overs. Arun Tuli played an unbeaten knock of 66 to take Fighter `A' to a win.

In the other match, Rakesh Jolly and Munish Arora hit half-centuries to take Chandigarh Club to a total of 188 and then off spinner Sanjay Dhull and Arun Singla captured three wickets each to bowl Videocon XI out for 146.

Scores: Fighter `B': 194 for 7 (Preet Mohan Singh 52 (retd), Premjit Hundal 40, Bhupinder Sandhu 32, Vinay 4-58) beat Star Eleven: 131 (Shamshad 41, Jagmohan 34, H S Sodhi 2-25, Sanjeev Trikha 2-26, Vikrant Gupta 2-20). High Court XI: 100 (Jagjit Singh 39, Girish Bhanot 3-14, Ajay Sikka 2-19, Dhiraj 2-21) lost to Godrej `A': 104 for 3 (Sukhwinder Tinkoo 43, Ajit Pal 31).

DYFI XI: 169 for 6 (Arvind Sagar 42, Ajay Bakshi 36, Jaswant Rai 4-23, Narinder Kwatra 2-24) lost to Fighter `A': 171 for 4 (Arun Tuli 66 n.o., Narinder Kwatra 23, Navneet Thapar 21 n.o.). Chandigarh Club: 188 (Rakesh Jolly 50, Munish Arora 51, Bhupinder Singh sr 29, Ajay Duggal 3-18, Kamalpreet 3-13) beat Videocon XI: 146 (Charanpreet 37, Ramanjit 35, Ajay Duggal 26, Sanjay Dhull 3-33, Arun Singla 3-23).
