Opening White House aides to testimony in the Monica Lewinsky inquiry, a federal judge denied President Bill Clinton's Executive Privilege claim. Clinton had claimed that his associates should not be forced to testify about his activities in the White House.
  Failed West Asia talks on Israeli withdrawal may resume in US
The United States has thrown Israeli and Palestinian leaders a lifeline of fresh talks in Washington next week after failing to obtain progress on Israeli troop withdrawals. Israeli Prime Minsiter Benjamin Netanyahu said after returning home from London that he would go to Washington, while Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat said he "welcomed" the US invitation after he began a visit to Morocco.

Bangla stir turns violent; 100 hurt
Over 100 people were injured today in group clashes as an opposition sponsored 12-hour strike turned violent and disrupted normal life in Bangladesh. At least 70 people, including three journalists and police personnel, were injured.
Pak Govt pressing for curbs on media
The Nawaz Sharif Government has reportedly decided to manage the national press through a `secret fund' that the ministry of information maintains and enforce a `code of ethics' that would impose virtual censorship on the press in Pakistan.

17 massacred by Colombian right-wing death squad
A right-wing death squad massacred at least 17 people and "disappeared" eight others in a remote village in eastern Colombia. The attack, by about 200 paramilitary gunmen, took place in the village of Puerto Alvira in Meta province on Tuesday afternoon, Narciso Matus, the provincial government secretary.
